trip 2014 day 2

It was another beautiful day in Rwanda I walked over to World Relief offices for devotions with the staff and visitors before meeting with R-F-J. It was an eye opening experience to hear about the amount of child abuse that has taken place in just one sector of the country but in many ways it also is encouraging to see people who will avail themselves and commit to doing something.
Following lunch we visited a camp for street boys named Les Enfants de Dieu which means Children Of God, kind of a funny name for a secular camp but it helps these trouble kids to feel they are part of the family of God, 100 kids mostly between the ages of 6 and 17 there are 4 older than that but they have not completed school yet. The Kids actually have to organize and run the camp themselves (with the directors signing off on each expenditure which allows the camp to operate with a staff of 17.
It was a short drive to Gates of Hope where we saw a group of women who where having a meeting on business where they set up financing on a small scale to help
them start and run a business most of these women are the primary supporters of their families. Some of the women have husbands who are in prison because of the genocide and it has a great effect on them and their children who feel shame for what their fathers have done.
The day was completed by a visit to the home of Abel Uwingeneye where we had dinner and heard some stories about the beginning of the Evangelical Free Church in Rwanda.
